One week stay on Anna Maria Island (FL) at Simplicity Cottage

One week stay at Simplicity Cottage, Anna Maria, FL.

Anna Maria is an island off the west coast of Florida. It is 7 miles long and 1/2 mile wide. Simplicity Cottage, in the northern-most town on the island, is located midway between gulf and bay on a quiet cul de sac in a residential neighborhood.

The house is 3 blocks to the sugar sand beaches of the Gulf of Mexico and has the most beautiful sunsets you have ever seen. The beaches are wide and uncrowded, and the gulf is Caribbean blue and so clear.  A free shuttle bus runs around the island and the "downtown" of Anna Maria which is just a few blocks long and has been given environmental awards for its green initiatives. Anna Maria has a 3 story height limit which keeps it uncrowded. The island looks like old Florida with no high rises and no chain stores.

The cul de sac location of Simplicity Cottage guarantees a quiet and very protected retreat, with a large private salt water pool in the backyard and a new 20 foot long dock in the canal.  Fishing gear & a kayak are supplied for your recreational enjoyment. And 2 adult bikes and 2 for kids. Beach chairs and an umbrella and sand and pool toys are also provided. But best of all may be sitting on the dock and watching the fish jump and observing the visiting birds. Three come regularly--a blue heron, a night heron and an egret. We call them Sherlock, Watson and Moriarity.

The house has 2 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, a living room, kitchen and traditional Florida room overlooking the pool, the dock and canal. A screened porch adjoins the dining area and is perfect for eating in a shady spot after coming out of the pool.

The time of the winner's stay is by mutual agreement and subject to availability. Most often available in May, from August 15 to December 15 and sometimes at other times. Arranged by mutual agreement.

Must be used by 12/31/2023.

Recent Reviews:

"I've stayed at Airbnb's and hotels all over the world, and my stay at the English Rose was one of the best I've ever had. Waking up to that pool and view was amazing! The food at the restaurant was great. There are only 5 rooms in the entire building, so at times it feels like you have the entire place to yourself. Wifi was fast enough for me to work. Would definitely recommend to anyone and I hope to come back soon!" - Alexandra (Oct 2021)

"This place is so amazing, we decided to stay an extra night! It is a bit of a hike uphill, but don’t be scared. It’s a breathtaking view." - Vanessa (Oct 2021)

"An incredibly perfect place to stay. Pool is gorgeous, view is sublime, room is exactly what we wanted." - Jessi (Oct 2021)

Springton Manor Tour with Josh Maxwell, County Commissioner

Initially part of a William Penn Manor, Springton Manor has been in agricultural use since the early 1700’s. On this demonstration farm, you can meet the animals and learn about Chester County’s farming history. The barn complex consists of the Great Barn, sheep shed, goat shed, a roost and equipment shed. You may see horses, donkeys, rabbits, calves, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens and peacocks.  The Family Farm Museum, located within the Great Barn, contains seasonal tools and apparatus used on Chester County farms from the 1700’s to the 1900’s.

What a wonderful treat for the child in your life who loves animals.  She and a friend can enjoy greeting the animals and hiking one of the trails on this beautiful, historic 300 acre farm.  Why not bring along a picnic?

Josh Maxwell is one of our county commissioners.  He is committed to supporting the green initiatives dear to the hearts of the WCGT.  He is interesting and funny with a warm personality that makes him an ideal tour guide, including for the youngest children.

Time will be by mutual agreement.

Suzanne Kent--Turtle vase

Suzanne Kent is a member of the Wallingford Potter's Guild and teaches classes at Yellow Springs. She trained locally and also at Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina. Her work is both useful and beautiful.
Of her turtle vases, Suzanne says that the sea blue color reminds her of the water of the Caribbean where she swam with fish and met a very large turtle up close.
Her Penland teacher said she does museum quality work. We agree.

  • Primary image for the Marc Chagall Etching Reproduction Auction Item

Marc Chagall Etching Reproduction

Marc Chagall was known as an early modernist. He was associated with several major artistic styles and created works in a wide range of artistic formats, including painting, drawings, book illustrations, stained glass, stage sets, ceramics, tapestries and fine art prints. Between 1931 and 1934 he worked "obsessively" on illustrating the Bible, even going to Amsterdam in order to carefully study the biblical paintings of Rembrandt and El Greco. He returned to France and by the next year had completed 32 out of the total of 105 plates. By 1939, at the beginning of World War II, he had finished 66. When the series was completed in 1956, it was published by Edition Tériade and acclaimed as "monumental" and,...”full of divine inspiration, which retrace the legendary destiny and the epic history of Israel to Genesis to the Prophets, through the  Patriarchs and the Heroes. Each picture becomes one with the event, informing the text with a solemn intimacy unknown since Rembrandt.”
We are offering a reproduction of #31 of the Bible series.
Measures 15 x 18.

Nils the Naughty Wall Hanging

Skoal! Nils promises to try to behave himself if you allow him to hang in your home. Nils the Naughty Viking Gnome is a one-of-a-kind handmade wall hanging by Dianne Walsh of Sun Dog Hand Knits. Each piece of her gnome hangings is hand-knitted, appliqued to a knitted background, then appropriately decorated. Hair and beards are appliqued, or, in Nils’s case, hand-hooked. Nils hangs from a section of tree branch, and he has a sparkly snowflake hanging from one horn because he “comes from the land of ice and snow.” He’s perfect for a teen’s room, bar area, family room, or anywhere there’s someone who’s fascinated by Vikings.

Nils comes with a tin of Danish cookies because he’s really a sweet guy—we think.
