Using their fine motor skills, students have shaped, layered, and decorated their own three-dimensional papier-mâché heart. At this age, children are learning to express their emotions, show care for others, and understand friendship.
This meaningful project gave students the opportunity to explore these themes through creativity. Each unique heart is a celebration of love—for family, for friends, and for the kindness and connection growing within the Prep SH classroom.

Prep CS students have used bubble wrap and paint to create this collaborative garden of blooming hydrangeas, celebrating their first year of school and immense growth. Each student contributed two unique flowers to the project, which are displayed together in a collaborative garden bed. The students made a connection between their project and the concept of a habitat, viewing their garden as a space where they, like animals, can grow and thrive. This collective arrangement symbolizes togetherness and the idea that no two learning experiences are the same, even as they all grow and learn as a cohesive group.
The multi-layered flowers, each with its unique shade and form, symbolize the distinct personalities and different layers that make up each student. These vibrant blooms stand out against a tranquil night sky, inviting the viewer to pause and reflect on the significant learning and development each child has already experienced.
This art piece is a celebration of the unique individuality of each student, representing their growth and the beautiful layers within them that are just beginning to unfold.

Australian Animals The inspiration for our artwork came from our study of Mem Fox and her many beloved stories about Australian animals. These tales encouraged us to look more closely at the unique creatures that live in our country and how they are represented in storytelling. For this piece, we explored the shapes of iconic Australian animals as a template, filling them with layers of colour and texture using coloured pencils. By experimenting with shading, blending and line work, we created depth and individuality in each animal. Set against bold, contrasting backgrounds, the animals stand out as vibrant and playful, reflecting both the richness of Mem Fox’s stories and the creativity of our Grade One artists.

"Heart Art"
The inspiration for our auction piece came from the works of Jim Dine, an American artist who was part of the Pop Art movement in the 1960s. According to Dine, a self-described romantic artist, the heart is a simple shape with limitless potential to represent friends, family, poetry, travel, and more.
For this art piece we have embraced the heart as a template, exploring relationships of colour, texture and composition. We used chalk pastels to create some contrast hearts-Some of the hearts in this statement piece are warm coloured with a cool coloured background and others are cool coloured with a warm coloured
background.

"Animals of Aus”
The inspiration for our art piece was the rich and diverse wildlife of Australia. Each part of this artwork showcases one of many different native fauna, the black silhouette of the animal highlighted by each students’ use of vibrant and colourful background filled with all kinds of lines, patterns, shapes and textures. Each part and animal is unique, exhibiting the variety of Australia’s wildlife across all environments, from snakes and crocodiles, to kangaroos and cockatoos. Each animal and patterned piece are different, but all come together to make Australia beautiful.

Mountains of Strength
“Mountains of Strength” is an artistic expression of the individuality and resilience of our Year 2 students. Inspired by a local Australian artwork, each child chose a mountain as their own, painting it with rich, bright, warm colours that reflect their personality and imagination. The surrounding skies and land capture their feelings, hopes and unique perspectives. Just as no two mountains are the same, each artwork stands tall as a symbol of the student who created it. Together, the collection forms a vibrant landscape, demonstrating how individual strengths combine to create a united horizon.

Emerging from the canvas in sculptural layers, this collaborative masterpiece by 2IL goes beyond paint to become a symbol of growth, resilience and a shared spirit. Using the impasto technique, students built textured surfaces in soft greens, tones that reflect vitality as well as renewal and harmony. Each child’s individual mark combines to form a single luminous tree, showing how difference can come together in unity. This tree stands as a reflection of the classroom itself: a place where every leaf matters, every branch is supported by the others, and where learning, like nature, grows in connected and meaningful ways.

"Our Place"
This fingerprint artwork represents “our place” - Mentone. Each building was chosen for its significance to our community: the parish, where our school and faith come together; Kilbreda, an iconic landmark and a place many students transition to; the railway station, connecting people to our suburb; and the colourful beach bathing box, symbolising our beachside identity. Every fingerprint reflects a student's unique contribution, showing how together we create and belong to this special place we call home.

Each student designed their own umbrella, transforming simple paper into vibrant expressions of creativity using textas, alfoil, and water.
As the colours bled and blended, unique and individual designs emerged. Fine liners brought the final details to life, as students decorated their pieces with intricate patterns to make each umbrella distinctively one of a kind. We used artworks from “Mr Doodle,” a British artist, as inspiration for our creations. Students produced one “calm piece” (the School of Fish) and one “crazy-fun piece,” which captured the joy and energy that can be found in chaos. This project not only encouraged creativity but also gave each student the opportunity to express themselves individually, with every child designing their own unique character for the board.

5MH were inspired by the uniqueness of each season when creating their art piece. The class each chose a nature element relating to a different season; such as blooming flowers in spring and falling leaves in autumn, highlighting the changes in our environment in each season. After choosing a specific element, students drew their designs onto a piece of foam before adding paint and pressing it onto a piece of card to create a unique print of their design. This project beautifully combined creativity with the hands-on process of printmaking, resulting in a series of artworks that celebrate the natural world.

Oceans of Peace
Oceans of Peace is a vibrant mosaic created by the 6LS students, inspired by the beauty and diversity of the marine world beneath the waves. Drawing on our school's close connection to Mentone Beach, the piece celebrates the local coastal environment while weaving in deeper spiritual symbolism. Oceans of Peace connects to the water and dove featured in our school logo, reflecting the sacred waters of baptism, a symbol of peace, renewal, and unity. Every tile was thoughtfully placed by the students to form an underwater world that reminds us of both the wonder of creation and the shared journey of faith within our community.

This artwork is titled “Sunrise, Sunset” by 6MH. It represents different parts of our primary school life: the book reminds us of all the things we have learned, the doves and red colours show the Holy Spirit and the sacraments we have received throughout our lives, like our recent Confirmation. The doves also represent our grade flying away into the sunset and finishing primary school. But you can look at it another way: the background is the sun rising as we prepare to turn over a new page of learning, take on new challenges and start a whole new chapter of our lives.
